Barcelona and Argentina striker Sergio Aguero on Wednesday announced his retirement from football at a tearful press conference, just over a month after the 33-year-old was diagnosed with a heart problem.
"I have decided to stop playing professional football. It is a very hard moment but I am happy with my decision. My health comes first," said Aguero, who enjoyed 10 highly successful years at Manchester City before leaving at the end of last season.
The Barcelona striker came out of a match against Alaves last month and was suffering from chest pains. Later, doctors discovered an irregular heartbeat, and asked him to rest for 3 months until his condition was evaluated after treatment.
"There are rumours going around but I'm following the club doctor's opinion and we'll see how I am in 90 days," he wrote on Twitter.
However, the “Mundo Deportivo” report indicated that there are more complications than the doctors imagined in the heart of the former historical Manchester City scorer.
Aguero was in the UAE in the past few days, and watched with his fiancée the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix, and took memorial photos with Dutch world champion Verstappen.
