du defends ‘Shield of Excellence’ at Corporate Sports Championship in Dubai

The third edition of Corporate Sports Championship, the premier corporate wellness event in the UAE organised by Corporate Sports, with the support of the Dubai Sports Council, concluded on Sunday evening.

The two days of intense competitions saw the participation of more than 1,000 male and female employees.

The du team (Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company) defended the over-all championship and retained the ‘Shield of Excellence’ after garnering the most points in the team category. The runner-up was NAFFCO team.

Winners, who received gifts and prizes, were crowned in a festive atmosphere.

The two-day competitions were held across three locations in Dubai with 18 sports including football, basketball, beach volleyball, cricket, badminton, table tennis, padel tennis, dragon boat, swimming, fitness challenge, karting, foosball, team building track and field, chess, darts, archery, and e-sport. The venues were Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai in Al Jaddaf, Dubai Indoor Kartdrome at Motor City, and Dubai Creek.

Mohammed Al Hosari, CEO of Corporate Sports, announced the fourth edition will take place in December this year – with participation from Gulf countries, US and European companies. Events will also be increased to 22.

“Corporate Sports Championship, which has also been supported by the Dubai Sports Council since inception, is set to go global in its fourth edition,” said Hosari, adding: “Preparations are underway to launch a global version, with participation from companies outside the UAE and we have received inquiries from companies from the GCC, US and Europe.

“This would further contribute to the promotion of sports tourism in the UAE and highlight the distinction of Dubai as a prominent destination for doing business and providing the best environment for employees by providing opportunities for them to practice sports and maintain a good work-life balance and healthy lifestyle,” he underlined.

Hosari noted Corporate Sports Championship is part of the community service, in line with the vision and directives of the government to promote the importance of sports in creating a spirit of competition, teamwork and a culture of closeness and cooperation among people in corporate institutions.

Hosari also thanked the UAE, a country he calls home for over 20 years that has given a stable and a safe place to live with his family and launch commercial projects.

He also praised the steps taken by the government in recovering from the pandemic.

He added the successful holding of the Corporate Sports Championship was a celebration and testament to the ability of UAE authorities and its people to address the pandemic and provide a safe and healthy life for all here.
