Germany’s Nicola Pohl emerged winner in the CSI3* Longines Sharjah Grand Prix Cup as the three-day Sharjah International Show Jumping Championship ended on a successful note.
Pohl, who won the Longines Grand Prix category at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy’s International Show Jumping Cup in Abu Dhabi last month, produced a flawless performance in both the rounds of the competition.
Riding Arlo De Blondel, the German completed the round with a fastest time of 36.83 seconds on the track designed with barriers of a height of (150) cm. Around 35 riders participated in the Longines Sharjah Grand Prix Cup.
Irish jockey Shane Breen, who won the President’s Cup for Show Jumping at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club in January, finished the second round in a time of (37.76) seconds, with four penalty points.
Sultan Mohammed Khalifa Al Yahyaee, General Manager of the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club, witnessed the competitions and crowned the winners.
UAE’s Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzouqi won the Grand Prix Mini Cup and collected 25,500 euros.
The event sponsored by the Sharjah Sports Council had the track created with 145 cm high barriers, and 44 jockeys took part in it.
Nine riders finished the main round without making an error, and they advanced to the final round.
Marzouqi riding Denita finished the round in a quick time of 37 seconds, passing compatriot Muhammad Shafi Al Rumaithi.
Meanwhile, young riders of the UAE’s youth team won the Nations Cup.
Teams from UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt took part in the event.
