The oragnisers of the Dubai Polo Gold have announced that Silver Cup and Gold Cup — two of the most prestigious tournaments in the Middle East, GCC and Africa — will be played at 20-goal handicap in 2023.
Mohammed Khalaf Al Habtoor, Founder of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series, said: "Achieving our position as the leading source of high goal polo tournaments in the region and maintaining it for thirteen years is not a small feat.
“The continued support of patrons, sponsors, and the hard work of our team bears impact not only on our organization but also in making Dubai a premium polo destination.
“As we move on to our next decade, we are honored to answer the call of increasing the level of polo played on our grounds.
The year 2023 will showcase the Silver Cup and Gold Cup (Dubai Open) tournaments at 20 goal handicap level and there is no better testament to the growth of the sport in the region."
Currently played at 18-goal handicap level, both tournaments have been under the patronage of Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai since 2009 and were recognized by World Polo Tour since 2012.
The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series began with one tournament - the Gold Cup (Dubai Open) in 2009.
The tournament served as the catalyst for the Sport of Kings in the region and paved the way to a string of tournaments catering to amateurs up to seasoned professionals visiting the country.
The presence of several polo tournaments in the UAE ultimately resulted in the development of polo teams and athletes in the region.
