Dubai Municipality continued their impressive run, winning all the three matches in the Group Stage as the Nad Al Sheba Wheelchair Basketball competitions reached the mid-way stage here.
After four days of the Wheelchair Basketball competition staged at the Dubai Club for People of Determination courts, Dubai Municipality and Dubai Ambulance Services topped Group B with three wins each, while Khorfakkan Club for Disabled and Al-Thiqah Club for the Disabled impressed in Group A.
Dubai Municipality opened with a facile 43-12 win over Roads and Transport before defeating Dubai Ambulance Corporation 37-28. In the third match, the Municipality men proved too good for the Department of Finance winning 39-14. After Monday’s win over RTA 27-12, Dubai Ambulance Services followed Dubai Municipality in the Group B points table.
In Group A, Khorfakkan Club for Disabled came out with a strong performance winning their three games by big margins. They first pulled off a 39-14 win over Dubai Police General Headquarters 39-14 before defeating General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai 37-14.
The Khorfakkan Club players stamped their authority again with a thumping 51-9 win over Dnata Travel. Al-Thiqah Club for the Disabled, who registered a 36-10 win over Dnata Travel on Monday night, followed Khorfakkan Club with three wins in the group.
Majid Al Usaimi, CEO of Dubai Club for People of Determination, who was also seen commentating on the opening day of the competitions said: “We are very happy to once again host the Wheelchair Basketball competition. We are witnessing some exciting matches; there have been close matches with a lot of baskets scored. It will be interesting to see who plays the final.
“As we gear up to host the World Wheelchair Basketball Championships in a few months’ time, the NAS event acts as a good preparation event for us.”
Top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals to be played on Thursday.
Ten teams are taking part in the Wheelchair Basketball competition of the NAS Sports Tournament 2022, organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC).
