In a tragic incident, an unbeaten German Boxer Musa Yamak died in the ring during a bout after suffering a massive heart attack in Munich.
Local media said Musa was undefeated and had an 8-0 record.
The 38-year-old Turkish-born boxer turned professional in 2017 and rose to fame after winning the WBFed International title in 2021, local media reported.
According to local media, the ill-fated boxer was facing Uganda’s Hamza Wandera in a May 14 match in Munich.
Sports officials from Turkey took to social media to confirm the news that came as a shock to many.
An official said, “The boxing world lost yet another star.”
A Member of the National Assembly of Turkey, Hasan Turan wrote on Twitter, “We lost our compatriot Musa Askan Yamak, a boxer from Alucra, who won European and Asian championships, at a young age after a heart attack.”
In the second round, Musa took heavy blows during his fight against Wandera.
In the third round, Musa tried to fight back but collapsed in the ring.
An amateur video shows Musa slowly kneeling down, before falling completely unresponsive.
The light-heavyweight boxer received immediate medical attention but all went in vain.
The medics could not revive him.
The video showed Musa being rushed away.
He was shifted to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.
The Munich Police said, “Paramedics saw turbulent scenes of emotionally charged fans and family members on site. To ensure the safety of the paramedics, we sent out a lot of patrols.”
A police official said, “We then set up a protection corridor on site so that the paramedics could work safely and conscientiously.”
