The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), the governing body for the sport in the Emirates, has announced a team from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) will be registered to participate in official events as part of the two parties’ ongoing partnership that aims to support and enhance the UAE’s status on the global jiu-jitsu stage.
Adnoc will form its own team to participate in official events organised by UAEJJF, enabling the company to enhance its efforts in preparing athletes for one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
Adnoc employees will attend weekly jiu-jitsu training sessions, strengthening their technique and efficiency on the mat, paving the way for them to join the ranks of professionals, and participate in local and international tournaments.
This initiative, which also encourages different segments of society to adopt a healthy lifestyle and stay active, builds on the long-term partnership between the two parties. Adnoc has been a sponsor and supporter of the UAEJJF’s events and championships for over a decade and the new announcement serves to underscore the company's commitment to developing sports and local talent.
“Adnoc has always been a strong supporter of UAEJJF events and has contributed to the growth of the sport of jiu-jitsu across the UAE,” said Fahad Al Shamsi, General Secretary of UAEJJF.
“Adnoc has demonstrated its commitment is genuine by promoting and incentivising staff to take up the sport.
“We are excited to have Adnoc employees be part of our events and we are confident they will be an important addition to UAEJJF tournaments.
“The Adnoc Jiu-Jitsu team has a clear roadmap to competing at world class events. But also, for those keen to just experience the sport and stay fit, the provided training sessions are for them too.”
Dr Saif Sultan Al Nasseri, Director, Group Human Capital — Group Human Capital Directorate – at Adnoc, praised the solid partnership with one of the most important sports federations in UAEJJF.
“The federation has become a synonym for success and excellence,” he said.
“Its initiatives and activities are always aimed at consolidating the leadership of the UAE in the field of jiu-jitsu, and sports in general.
“Adnoc and the UAEJJF share common goals, which reflect the vision of our wise leadership. We both support and empower UAE youth, helping them overcome the obstacles in front of them and successfully take on influential roles across various fields and arenas.”
Yousef Al Hosani, a member of Adnoc’s jiu-jitsu team and employee of the company as a (security attendant), said: “I am excited to have the opportunity to represent Adnoc and compete at the highest level in the UAEJJF events It will certainly be an experience that will strengthen me.”
