Stephanie Frappart becomes first woman referee to take charge of a men's World Cup game

The World Cup is witnessing an unprecedented historical event, as an all-female refereeing team officiates the Germany-Costa Rica match in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
France's Stephanie Frappart will be the first female referee to lead a men's match at the World Cup finals. The 38-year-old will take charge of a men's World Cup game on Thursday, working with two women assistant referees.
Stephanie Frappart is the first woman to run a French first-class match in 2019, and in the same year she managed the Women's World Cup final in her home country.
Stephanie Frappart also managed the 2019 European Super Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea, England, before leading matches in the Champions League in 2020, and then the French Cup final last season.
Stephanie Frappart appointed as a fourth referee during the Qatar World Cup in the matches between Mexico and Poland, Portugal and Ghana in the group stage competitions.
Frappart, 38, will become the first woman to take charge of a men's World Cup game on Thursday, working with two women assistant referees.
Costa Rica coach Luis Fernando Suarez said her appointment "speaks volumes of this woman and her commitment... especially in this sport, which is a sexist sport."
