UAE’s Majed sets Asian record, IPF President Parage praises hosts Dubai

UAE national team player Majed Al Reda succeeded in lifting a weight of 170.5 kilograms while breaking the Asian record of 167.5 kilograms with a weight of under 70 kilograms to clinch the gold medal at the Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship on Sunday.

With the participation of over 600 athletes from 29 Asian countries, the Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship, organised by the Emirates Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (EBBF) in cooperation with the Asian Powerlifting Federation, is currently underway at the Dubai Club for People of Determination and will run until December 7.

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Bin Saif Al Sharqi, Chairman of the EBBF, Mohammed Abdul Rahim Al Marri, Chairman of the event's organizing committee; and Farshid Soltani, President of the Asian Powerlifting Federation, gave away the medals to the winners.

The championship comprises three powerlifting categories: squat, bench press, and deadlift.

Gaston Parage, president of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), also graced the occasion.

Parage praised the hosts, the Emirates Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation and Dubai, for organizing an event of such stature.

"The Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship, which is being held in Dubai and attracting 600 athletes from 29 Asian countries, including some big names in the game, demonstrates the strength of the competition, and Dubai is playing the role of perfect hosts with the arrangements in place," said Parage.

"The successful organization and exciting competition demonstrate the growth of this exciting spectator sport and deserve recognition," he added.
