A new season of the UIM-FH2O World Championship will kick off in Indonesia. The season-opening Grand Prix of Indonesia is scheduled to take place at Toba Lake on Feb.24-26, 2023.
Not only will Indonesia host for the first time a Grand Prix of F1H2O, but it will also be the very first time that F1H2O will run in a volcanic lake: more specifically, a "super-volcano," as the experts call it.
Lake Toba is an extraordinary natural wonder of the world. It is an immense volcanic lake formed by a gigantic volcanic eruption some 70,000 years ago, and it is probably the largest resurgent caldera.
Speaking on the sidelines of the press conference to announce the Sharjah World Championship Week, a double header comprising season-ending races at Sharjah’s Khalid Lagoon, H2O Racing founder Nicolo di San Germano confirmed the news regarding the Indonesian Grand Prix.
The outcome of the 2022 UIM F1H2O World Championship will be decided over two races on Sharjah’s Khaled Lagoon on Friday and Sunday
"After the two races of the Sharjah Grand Prix, we will hand over the F1H2O flag to Indonesia. This will be a new country in the F1H2O family at the start of 2023.
"We will announce the new calendar for next year with a lot of fantastic new venues before the end of January, with the season again closing in Sharjah," Di San Germano said.
The Indonesian delegation, including Zainudin Amali, the Minister of Youth and Sports, will be attending the Sharjah World Championship Week.
Besides Indonesia, UIM F1H2O World Championship promoters are also looking to host the Grand Prix at new venues and add new destinations to the calendar.
"We are in talks with the Maharashtra and Goa governments and will soon finalise the venues in India," Di San Germano added.
