American pilot Nick Maxwell emerged winner at the third edition of the Dubai Masters International RC Championship (aircraft competition) on Sunday.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, the three-day event took place at the Dubai Creek Park (Al Khor Park).
The championship, organized by the Emirates Aerosports Federation (EAF), was held with the support of the Dubai Sports Council and in cooperation with governmental and federal institutions, including the Dubai Municipality, Dubai Police, Dubai Television, Roads and Transport Authority, and Dubai Ambulance.
Representing XL Power at the competition, Maxwell garnered 285 points alone to take the lead and deserve the title and gold medal.
The American also pocketed $7,000 in cash after an exciting competition, where five pilots qualified for the finals.
Thailand’s Sakkarin CD Kongthon finished second with a score of 280.5 points. Besides silver, the Thai also received a cash prize of $5,500.
Taiwan’s Kenny Ko came in third with a score of with 259.5 points and got $3,500.
Yousef Hasan Al Hammadi, Vice President of the Emirates Aerosports Federation; Mohammed Yousef, Secretary General of the Emirates Aerosports Federation; and Yousef Al Shehhi, board member of the federation, gave away the prizes to the winners.
Hammadi, on behalf of the Emirates Aerosports Federation and organizing committee, thanked Sheikh Hamdan for his unwavering support for the sports sector in general, and air sports in particular.
Hammadi also expressed his gratitude to the Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Municipality, praising the technical efforts put forth by Tariq Al Saadi, the tournament director.
He also thanked the Dubai Parks Department, Dubai Police, Dubai TV, the RTA, Dubai Ambulance, and other entities that contributed to the success of the event.
Maxwell expressed his joy at winning the title and thanked Dubai for hosting the competition for the third time. He also praised the organizing committee for putting things in place to make the event a wonderful experience for the participants.
