His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, directed the speedy completion of a stadium and a new headquarters for Dibba Al Hisn Club on Al Hosn Island.
The club was founded by the merger of two clubs and the new team was officially registered into the UAE football league under the name of Dibba Al Hisn Sports Club.
The team has mostly spent their time in UAE's second tier football, only getting promoted once in 2005, the 2005–06 season remains the only time the club experienced top flight football.
The UAE has a very strong sporting culture and it has a wonderful infrastructure to promote all sports in general, football and cricket in particular.
Football runs in the blood of Emirati people. They have a systematic infrastructure to boost the sport at the grass root level. The country can boast of having a number of football and cricket stadiums.
The UAE FA hosts a number of tournaments like UAE President’s Cup, Pro League, Super Cup and League Cup. They have a proper system in place. The top-two teams of the second divisions are promoted to the top flight whereas the last two finishers in the first division are relegated to the second tier, which keep a healthy rivalry among the teams.
The UAE have built many state of the art stadiums like Al Maktoum Stadium, Al Nahyan Stadium, Al Nahyan Stadium, Rashid Stadium, Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium, Al Rashid Stadium, Sheikh Khalifa International Stadium, and Zayed Sports City Stadium to name a few. These stadium have hosted the international competitions like Club World Club and AFC Champions League.
Recently, Sharjah FC won the President’s Cup for the second time in a row and were feted by Sheikh Sultan.
