Perhaps no other cricket match arouses as much interest and expectation as an India-Pak tussle. Excitement hits the stratosphere. However, fans eager to watch the faceoff between the two nations live at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15 have been faced with a major hurdle: shortage of hotel rooms as tariff rates go over the roof. But no matter, the cricket-crazy fans have hit upon a clever and economic solution: hospital beds.
After the schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup was announced, room tariff rates started spiralling dramatically around the match day, soaring beyond Rs1.5 lakh (approximately Dhs7,000) each, leaving many fans at their wits’ end in finding an affordable place to stay.
No matter, when it comes to watching a cricket match, no hurdle is too great to overcome. Excellent at improvisation, the fans have started booking hospital beds for accommodation in Ahmedabad. This unusual trend was spotted by cricket commentator Mufaddal Vohra who posted it on social media, according to Indo-Asian News Service.
Authorities in some hospitals have noticed an unusual surge in bed bookings from the sport’s buffs.
The hotel room price surge has not been limited to Ahmedabad alone, as neighbouring cities are also experiencing a spike in rates. Vadodara, which is only a little over an hour’s drive from Ahmedabad, has witnessed a 6-7 jump in room prices.
