Sharjah Women’s Sports Club fencers leave for Paris to attend training camp

The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s fencing team left on Tuesday for Paris to take part in a training camp.

The camp will continue until September 28. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s delegation is headed by Balqees Al Shehhi, Head of the Individual Games at the club, and is accompanied by coaches Fatima Drami and Sergey and seven fencers.

Fencers taking part in the Paris camp include Fajr Al Marzouqi and Fatima Al-Mulla in the women’s category. Ghala Jassim, Shamma Al Suwaidi, Alia Al-Alili, Juri Ali, and Afra Al-Shataf are from the youth category.

Balqees, head of the delegation, considers the Paris camp a new opportunity to prepare the team for the upcoming official competitions. France is one of the top nations with an interest in fencing and has a prestigious international standing in the sport.

A number of the most well-known players from the French teams will be friendly opponents throughout the training camp.

It is noteworthy that the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club fencing team dominated the Fencing Federation Championship, which took place a few days ago in Dubai with the participation of six teams.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club team won five medals at the championship, including three in the epee competition.

Alanoud Al Saadi won gold, Sheikha Al-Zaabi bagged silver, and Fajr Al-Marzouqi took bronze.

In the saber competition, Afra Al Balushi bagged the silver medal, and Habiba Islam won the bronze medal.

Balqees claimed that the medals earned by the club fencers at the expense of the other top teams, which included some of the most illustrious squads like the Abu Dhabi Club, Shabab Al-Ahly, Fujairah, MK Fencing Academy, and Al-Nahda Saudi Club, are proof of the players' remarkable improvement in performance.

Balqees concluded by pledging that club players will give their best at the upcoming tournaments as a result of the club management's outstanding support for the team, which has provided them with all the resources necessary to spur them to attain top spots that are consistent with the Sharjah Women's Sports Club's objectives.
