Magomedomar Magomedomarov defeated Temur Rakhimov of Tajikistan on Tuesday in Hangzhou to win the UAE's first gold medal at this year’s Asian Games.
Magomedomarov outclassed Rakhimov in the over 100kg category final.
The UAE's Aram Grigorian and Dzhafar Kostoev also clinched bronze medals, respectively.
Grigorian beat his South Korean rival Han Juyeop in the 90kg category of the competition, while Kostoev outlasted Japan’s Aaron Phillip Wolf in the 100kg bout.
Mohammed Bin Thaloub Al Darai, President of the Judo Federation, congratulated the UAE leadership on the achievement.
He stressed that the support of wise leadership is paving the way for success.
“We are proud of what the judo team have achieved in the Asian Games. We look forward to maintaining the ambition of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics and striving to achieve the desired results,” added Darai.
Nasser Al Tamimi, Secretary General of the UAE Wrestling and Judo Federation, praised the team for winning the first gold of the nation.
“The Asian Games provide us with a valuable platform to build towards the Paris Games,” he added.
