Dubai Sports Council has announced the launch of the 5th edition of “Dubai Open Basketball Academies Championship” which will be held from October 28 to March 10, 2024.
Around 2000 male and female players of various ages, representing 65 teams will compete in 400 matches.
The “DOBA Championship” aims to attract & develop promising sports talents.
The championship’s details were announced in a press conference, held at DSC’s headquarters attended by Ahmed Salem Al Mahri, Director of Sports Development Department, Mohammed Al-Hammadi, CEO of the UAE Basketball Association, and Muneer Ahmed Al Emam, President of Delta Company and the organizational partner of the championship.
Ahmed Sulaiman, Director General of Jam Academy, the supporting partner of the championship, Rashid Al Falasi, CEO of the Canadian Hospital, the Medical Partner of the event, and representatives of participating academies were also present on the occasion.
Mahri stated: “We are pleased to announce the launch of the new edition of Dubai Basketball Academies Championship, which is held as part of the Dubai Government Strategy 2033, and according to DSC’s policy, aiming to attract promising sports talents.
“The championship has witnessed remarkable development, as the numbers of participating players have exceeded 2000 male and female players representing 65 teams from governmental and private academies in addition to academies from overseas who will all compete in 400 matches, taking place throughout five successive months.
“The event is a distinctive platform aiming to attract and develop sports talents and supply clubs and national teams with promising stars who will catch this opportunity to boost their technical levels to attain achievements & win titles in various fields.”
He added: “We thank the UAE Basketball Association for its remarkable efforts to support the championship. We also thank Jam Academy which contributes to all basketball competitions, organized by DSC.
“Thanks are also extended to Delta Company. toward its organizational efforts in this championship and other basketball competitions, arranged by the council. We wish the best for all participants in this Championship”.
Hammadi remarked: “I have the pleasure to convey the compliments of Ismail Abdulla Al-Gerqawi, the Board Chairman of the UAE Basketball Association. In this regard, the Association is pleased to provide all support to ensure successful organization of this Championship and all other basketball competitions, particularly the basketball competitions which target the various age groups & academies. We thank DSC for its successive efforts to attract & develop promising sports talents”.
Emam referred: “It is a competitive championship which will be held with participation of several promising talents whether from governmental or private academies or even from overseas academies. The championship will supply clubs and national teams with distinctive promising stars. A technical committee has been assigned to analyze data and observe the development of participating players.
“We have launched a Talents Club to attract distinctive players in the various sports games. The Talents Club will act to develop these promising stars and to form teams to participate in various competitions.”
