The Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club aspires to make a qualitative leap in Taekwondo in 2024.
The board of directors of Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club, chaired by Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Owais, discussed the project to develop Taekwondo in the club's ranks as part of its technical plans for 2024, in accordance with the vision of Sharjah Sports Council and its club's strategic plan.
The plans were discussed during the monthly meeting held at the club's branch in Industrial 18, adjacent to Maliha Street. It was attended by Ahmed Saeed Ali Jarwan, Vice President of the Board of Directors, and the members Khaled Al Naqhi, Ali Obaid, Mohammed Bourhimah, Obaid Al Assam, and the president's office manager, Mohammed Lutfi.
During the meeting, efforts of the club's related to the nomination for the Sheikh Jawaher Al Qasimi Award for Sports Excellence, which contributed to winning four historical awards, were also hailed by the members.
The development project for Taekwondo at the club encompasses several key aspects. It focuses on discovering more local talents interested in practicing Taekwondo, continuing the development of the current elite players, providing internal and external training camps, and participating in top tournaments. This aims to give players opportunities for exposure, and the sports training management and coaches will assess the technical level of the players.
Owais said: "We aspire to achieve more accomplishments in Taekwondo by enriching the UAE national teams with talented local players, contributing to producing Olympic champions according to the best global technical specifications.
“We look forward to leveraging distinctive technical expertise to support programme implementation."
Owais also commended the efforts of the club's family in winning four historic awards at Sheikh Jawaher Al Qasimi Award for Sports Excellence.
In a related context, the organisation plan for the Self-Defense Sports Festival, scheduled for mid-January, was approved.
The members were also directed by the sustainability work team to update plans and complete efforts to support the Emirate of Sharjah in achieving sustainable sports development permanently, incorporating it into the plans of all departments for the coming year.
