Gearing up for the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST), the volleyball team of Sharjah Women’s Sports Club has been playing friendly matches against stronger opponents in Tunisia.
Sharjah is set to host the much-anticipated seventh edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST), featuring 550 sportswomen forming 61 teams hailing from 14 countries. The tournament will take place from February 2 to 12, 2024.
Sharjah Women’s Sports Club volleyball team played against one of the top Tunisian clubs, CS Sfaxien.
The experience was beneficial for the team and marked the third encounter during their training camp in Tunisia, following matches against Club Africain and Boumhel Bassatine.
Two more matches remain for the team to complete its final preparations in Tunisia. The first will be against the Esperance team, and the second will be against the Olympique de Kelibia team before their return to Sharjah.
The delegation of Sharjah Women's Sports Club, which includes both the volleyball and basketball teams, received significant attention from the Ambassador of the UAE Emirates in Tunisia, Dr. Eman Al Salami.
She warmly welcomed and supported the delegation, providing all the necessary resources to overcome any challenges they might face from their arrival in Tunisia until their departure.
Dr. Eman was honored in recognition of her efforts and the efforts of the UAE’s embassy in Tunisia for their hospitality and the services they provided to the delegation.
Dr. Karim Bin Ayed, the technical director of the Sharjah Women's Club volleyball team, expressed his satisfaction with the experience of his team's match against CS Sfaxien and considered it useful in the team's preparation.
He emphasized that the match provided numerous technical gains as the team interacted with skilled players with high levels of experience and competence.
He added: "The CS Sfaxien match and the large crowd attendance that filled the stands were an additional preparation for Sharjah players before competing in the Arab Women Sports Tournament in front of the home crowd.”
