Sharjah Women's Sports Club teams gearing up for seventh edition of AWST

Aiming to deliver and make the country proud with their best performances, all eight teams from the Sharjah Women's Sports Club are in the final stages of preparation for the seventh edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST), hosted by the Emirate from February 2 to 12.

The eight teams participating in the tournament include basketball, volleyball, athletics, table tennis, fencing, shooting, archery, and karate. They have undergone extensive preparation, grueling training programmes, camps, and internal and external trials to reach the level required and give it their best shot.

In the final preparations leading up to the competition, the club's technical management has implemented a distinctive programme to ensure that all players reach their best possible level before the start of the games on February 2. This is seen as a continuation of the ongoing season's competitions.

The carefully chosen preparatory programme, developed in collaboration with the teams' technical staff, reflects the commitment to excellence. As the teams enter the final stages of preparation, various training camps, both internal and external, have been scheduled. The athletics team traveled to Qatar, while the fencing team visited Bahrain and Italy. The women's team embarked on a training camp in Italy under the supervision of Italian experts.

Regarding the shooting team, they will conclude their preparations in Turkey with a camp scheduled until February 1. The karate team will head to France to participate in the World Karate League, considered a crucial conclusion to their preparations before the Arab Women Sports Tournament.

The archery team will complete their preparations in Turkey, with a camp concluding on February 1. The table tennis team is set to engage in an internal camp in Sharjah, including joint training with a Russian team present in the country from January 24 to 31, providing valuable exposure.

Regarding the team camps, Balqis Al Shehhi, head of the club’s individual games department, said that the administration has monitored all available possibilities to bring the club’s teams to the required level that befits them and equip them to deliver at the, which includes the largest and strongest teams at the Arab level.

She pointed out: “The next stage will witness the entry of all teams into internal and external camps, including the athletics team, which went to Qatar, and the fencing team, which went to both Bahrain and Italy, where players in the under-11 and 13-year-old categories entered a camp in Bahrain, while the women’s team went to Italy. To enter a camp there that will last until the end of this month under the supervision of Italian experts.”

Balqis added that the archery team will complete its preparations in Turkey in a camp that will last until February 1, while the karate team will head to France to participate in the World Karate League Championship, which the technical staff considers the best conclusion to the team’s preparations before competing in the tournament in Sharjah.

Regarding the final preparations for the shooting team, she said that after a long journey of preparations and external participation, the last of which was a camp in Serbia, which included competing in the international European Championship, the team will enter an internal camp in Al Dhaid that will continue until the start of the shooting competition.
