The fifth edition of the Sharjah International Paragliding Championship is set to take place in the scenic Jebel Al Faya in Maliha region of the Emirate from Friday.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Executive Council, the championship will feature the participation of top paragliders
The three-day event will conclude on Sunday. The details of the event were disclosed during a press conference held at the Sharjah Sports Council headquarters on Wednesday.
The press conference was attended by Eisa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council; Yousef Hassan Al Hamadi, Vice President of Emirates Aerosports Federation; Mohammed Yousef, Secretary General of Emirates Aerosports Federation; and other dignitaries.
Hazami expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, for sponsoring the championship, as well as thanking Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, for his support for the event.
The Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council pointed out that the location of the event, Jebel Al Fayah, is a unique site that has impressed international federation officials and participants who have participated in previous championships.
He emphasised that Sharjah is keen on developing all events and introducing what is new, and that they have an ambitious project that they will announce in the near future.
Yousef Hassan Al Hammadi, Vice-President of Emirates Aerosports Federation, expressed his happiness at the launch of the fifth edition of the Sharjah International Paragliding Championship, which embodies the successful joint cooperation between the federation and the Sharjah Sports Council.
Hammadi thanked His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, for his support of sports and athletes, and Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the patron of the championship.
He also thanked the Sharjah Sports Council, the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Zala Water, and all government departments and entities in Sharjah and the Mleiha Municipality for their continuous cooperation.
Youssef addressed the technical and safety aspects of the tournament, assuring that a dedicated team oversees all security and safety factors to ensure 100% implementation.
