Taiwan’s Kenny Ko maintained the lead at the fourth edition of the Dubai Masters RC Championship taking place at the SkyHub RC campus in Al Lisaili flying field on the Dubai-Al Ain Road.
The championship for RC Aircraft is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai.
Ko's lead over five pilots who qualified for the finals at the end of the second round of the championship, bearing the slogan "Dubai Sky Unites Us," puts him in strong contention for the title.
However, this sport makes it difficult to predict the pilot's current conditions, which require him to control the aircraft while flying in the sky and to land safely and steadily inside the ‘target’ at the end of the three minutes.
American aviator Nicholas Maxwell maintained second place despite an incident with his aircraft during the competition, which forced the championship judges to use the yellow card for the first time and give him a second chance, which he succeeded in.
Thailand’s Pava Sasikana came in third, followed by Frenchman Duncan Bosson in fourth and Thai pilot Scareen Si Di in fifth.
Experts of the game expect the final round to be a fierce competition between the five pilots, and the ranking of the pilots may change according to their individual performance and the calmness and nerves of each pilot during the three minutes allotted to them.
On the sidelines of the championship, a joint meeting was held between the Board of Directors of the Emirates Aerosports Federation and the Board of Directors of the Malaysian Aerosports Federation to discuss the exchange of expertise and benefit from the experiences of the two countries.
The Malaysian Federation presented a programme detailing how to register and verify the data of pilots and approved licenses, among other organizational and technical matters, in real time and without hassle.
Yousef Hassan Al Hammadi, Vice President of the Emirates Aerosport Federation, and Mohammed Yousef, Secretary General, presented the experiences of the Emirates Federation and the technical and organizational successes that the federation has achieved over the past years.
