Under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club organized a celebratory event recently at Al Hudayriyat track in front of the ADG42 Cycle Hub Building, with the participation of over 700 people from various categories and age groups, amid positive and enthusiastic atmosphere.
The event was attended by Aref Al Awani, the Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Talal Al Hashemi, the National Director of the Special Olympics UAE, Khaled bin Shaiban, the Vice Chairman of the Club's Board of Directors, Dr. Aref Al Hammadi, a member of the Board of Directors, and Al Nekhaira Al Khyeli, the CEO of the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club.
A group of Special Olympics UAE cyclists participated in a 10 km community ride, alongside all age groups, to support their integration into society. The event received great interaction, especially from young participants. The German company "PUKY" collaborated with the club to provide bikes for children aged one to eight, encouraging them to engage in this sport.
The World Bicycle Day highlights the benefits of using bicycles as a simple, clean, environmentally friendly mode of transportation, promoting sustainability.
Al Nekhaira Al Khyeli, the CEO of the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club, confirmed that the club organized the event under the sponsorship of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasizing its importance in encouraging the community to engage in this sport and expressing gratitude to all the supporting entities for the event.
Marc Thiel, the Managing Director of PUKY Company, said: "I am very happy to be here in Abu Dhabi to celebrate World Bicycle Day." He added that the goal of our presence and collaboration with ADCC is to encourage children to engage in sports activities, stay away from tablet and computer use as much as possible, and lead a healthy lifestyle significantly.
The speaker pointed out that the noticeable attendance and interaction from various nationalities confirm the interest in cycling, given the qualified infrastructure that the Emirates, and Abu Dhabi in particular, possess.
