The UAE national bodybuilding team bagged seven medals on the second day of the 5th West Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship concluded in Muscat, with the participation of 270 athletes from 13 countries.
UAE athlete Ahmed Al Mualla won the gold medal in Classic Bodybuilding in the Masters category, while Karim Mohsen took the gold in the under 90 kg bodybuilding category.
Rashid Al Shmaili secured the silver medal in Masters Bodybuilding for over 80 kg, and Abdullah Al Marzouqi won silver in the under 85 kg category.
The bronze medals were claimed by Mohammed Ehab in the youth under 75 kg category, Mohammed Al Balushi in the under 65 kg category, and Saber Al Shehi in the under 90 kg category.
Mohammed Shahin Al Hosani, a member of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (EBBF) and head of the technical committee, praised the outstanding and successful performances by the UAE athletes in the West Asia Championship.
He noted that they earned widespread acclaim from the sporting community, with a total of 12 medals and the champions trophy, along with two professional cards, marking a significant achievement in a tough competition.
Hosani commended the support and patronage of Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Bin Saif Al Sharqi, Chairman the Emirates Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, and the efforts of the board members, which helped the athletes perform at a high level and gain support from the fans.
He also mentioned that the positive gains will be reviewed, and challenges will be addressed in preparation for upcoming competitions.
Zuwaid Salmeen Al Zaabi, UAE national team’s technical director, described the results as impressive, given the strength of the competition and the number of medals won.
He noted that all the athletes delivered strong performances, reflecting the stature of previous championships.
Zaabi emphasized that a select group of the best athletes from West Asia participated in the championship, and the UAE athletes demonstrated their competence in both technical and physical displays. He extended his thanks and appreciation to all the athletes for their efforts in reaching the international podiums.
“I had the privilege of being with the UAE national team in Oman for the 2024 West Asian Championship. It was a tough competition, but everything went smoothly, and all athletes participated safely without any medical concerns, said Dr. Saeed Sassani.
“Our team performed exceptionally well, winning numerous medals across various categories. I want to extend a big congratulations to them. Their success is a testament to the fact that our athletes prioritize their health, regularly doing checkups to stay in top form.
“To all athletes out there, I strongly advise you to always prioritize your health. It is essential for athletes in any sport to be under the supervision of a doctor and undergo regular medical checkups to avoid potential health issues.”
