His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has allocated a site for a sports city in the Central Region. The city will include four sports complexes and a main stadium, which will serve as an architectural icon, taking the shape of a sand dune and a falcon.
It will host all sporting events and official celebrations.
This was revealed by Ali Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Public Works Department in Sharjah, through the “Direct Line” programme broadcast by Sharjah Broadcast Authority (SBA).
On behalf of all athletes in the emirate, Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, extended his deepest thanks and gratitude to Sheikh Sultan on the occasion of His Highness’s approval of the site of the new sports city in the central region of the emirate, which includes 4 sports complexes.
Issa Hilal added that the Ruler of Sharjah has delighted all athletes with this city, which will achieve a qualitative addition to the UAE's facilities and qualify it to organize and host the most important international tournaments and courses instead of all local and regional celebrations and events.
The Chairman of the Sports Council also expressed his admiration for the design that was approved for the main stand, saying that it is an icon that combines heritage and modernity, embodying the symbols of the UAE environment and its distinctive nature with mountains and sand dunes, as well as its rich heritage of falconry and hunting.
He concluded by saying that Sheikh Sultan's support on sports and athletes in general cannot be limited, and the new city is only one of his sustainable generosity, and there is no doubt that it will motivate us and motivate athletes to achieve more and more achievements for UAE sports.
For our part, the Sports Council will continue to follow His Highness' approach in caring for all games and group and individual sports to build promising generations and leaders capable of achieving all ambitions.
