To build a resilient and water-secure future for the region and reduce the carbon footprint, a UAE brand Ma Hawa showcased its technologies during Gitex Global 2023 to enable the generation of clean drinking water directly from the air.

The Ma Hawa brand was established in 2023 by Baynunah Watergeneration Technologies SP providing a completely renewable and sustainable source of drinking water. The brand introduced an innovative, patented technology by Watergen Inc. that extracts clean drinking water directly from the air, utilising energy-efficient products. At the core of Ma Hawa's breakthrough is the patented GENius heat exchange technology, transforming the surrounding air into pure, high-quality drinking water while conserving energy.

Amro Ismaeal, Head of Marketing at Ma Hawa said to the Gulf Today, “Baynunah Watergeneration Technology uses patented air-to-water technology through an energy-efficient process that does not affect water sources. The launch of Ma Hawa comes to meet the world's need for access to clean, healthy and clean water from sustainable sources.”

He explained the process,"The air-to-water technology, which is carried out by AWG devices draws and purifies air in 3 stages, as these devices are equipped with 3 filters, which are (nano ceramic, carbon filter, and metals). The device adds essential minerals such as magnesium and calcium, which are beneficial to human health. There is a next stage through which the extracted water goes to get rid of any bacteria, if any."

About the brand, he said,” We started the research and development phases since 2019 and worked on conducting comprehensive and accurate studies, completing all preparations and ensuring that the devices comply with the highest international standards. And now the official launch of Ma Hawa in 2023 coincides with the Year of Sustainability, in which our country hosts the United Nations Climate Summit (COP23), and in line with Abu Dhabi's Industrial Strategy, which stimulates national industries and a circular, smart and sustainable economy.

Amro Ismaeal said about the production, “Currently, the production capacity reaches 3,000 bottles per day. When the Ma Hawa factories in Kizad begin operating in the middle of this month, approximately 4,500 Ltrs per hour will be produced as a first stage, and the production capacity will be gradually increased.”

Explaining future plans, Ismaeal added, “Ma Hawa works to provide healthy and sustainable water at an affordable cost for all. We are keen to achieve water sufficiency in the UAE, in line with the country's strategies in this field. Ma Hawa also aims to contribute to the provision of clean, healthy and safe water to areas most affected with water shortages in the world, in cooperation with national and international bodies and institutions concerned with this field. To achieve these goals, we have started rolling out two drinking water products, and we plan to launch more this year.”

He concluded, “Currently, Ma Hawa devices are available in a number of government departments and institutions, private companies and many public parks. I would like to thank the many national and international institutions and companies that have cooperated with us in this field such as the Department of Finance, Identity and Citizenship, the Armed Forces, ADNOC, Abu Dhabi Ports, Microsoft, Mars, and Abu Dhabi Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Meanwhile, the water bottles are available in many facilities, institutions and hotels in the country.”
