Abdul Aziz Ahmed Al-Shamsi, Director General of Sharjah Real Estate Registration Department (RERD), praised the “great role played by Emirati women in the country’s progress towards prosperity, and their hard work in raising the country’s status among other nations side by side with men under the banner of our wise leadership, which has been keen to empower women, defend all their scientific and social rights, and provide them with opportunities in various professional and economic fields until they reached space.”

With regards to the presence of Emirati women in the real estate of Sharjah, Ahmed Al-Shamsi said, “Emirati women play a pivotal role in this vital sector, as their number as property owners last year had reached 3,491, traded in 3,304 properties in all types of transactions, and with a volume of more than Dhs9.2 billion.”

Al-Shamsi referred to the “National Policy for Empowerment of Emirati Women - 2031, launched by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak (Mother of the Nation), Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, which contributed to extending the capabilities of Emirati women and help them overcoming the difficulties which hinder their participation in all fields.

This policy also supported Emirati women to be an effective and pioneering element in sustainable development, and to occupy the position they deserve, making them an honorable example of women’s leadership in all local, regional, and international forums.”

Al-Shamsi further praised the great efforts made by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council of Family Affairs, to invest in women and provide an infrastructure and legislation which establish an economic and social system based on the principle of integration and equality between the two wings of society, women and men, which led to achieving a qualitative shift at all levels.

Ahmed Al-Shamsi finally said “Emirati women have added great scientific, cognitive, and economic contributions, and have become a true and effective partner in the process of sustainable development and economic renaissance that our country and people are now enjoying”.

Introduced by the Mother of the Nation, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Al Ketbi, in 2015 to elevate and inspire women’s empowerment in the UAE, Emirati Women’s Day (August 28) is the ideal occasion to shine a light on local women who are pushing the boundaries across all areas of society.

It is observed to recognise Emirati women’s efforts and to honour their devotion, fortitude, ambitions, and accomplishments.

This is particularly the case at Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), where Emirati women are excelling in their selected specializations of artificial intelligence (AI), from natural language processing (NLP) to its ethical use in industry implementation. Currently, 34 female Emirati students are studying at the university with the total student body totaling 381 from 49 countries (30 per cent female:70 per cent male overall).
