Mesmerising northern lights were seen around the Arctic Circle in Finland on Saturday, captivating skygazers and photographers. At one point, red auroras are also visible.
According to locals, seeing such red auroras with a naked eye is extremely rare, as usually the auroras appear in other ranges of colours.
The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, are multicoloured natural illuminations caused by interactions between solar winds and the Earth's magnetic field.
In 2021 August, Nasa released from aboard the International Space Station, shows the aurora australis as it streams across the Earth's atmosphere as the station orbited 271 miles above the southern Indian Ocean in between Asia and Antarctica.
Named for the Roman goddess of dawn, the aurora is a display of light in the night sky. The aurora borealis and aurora australis — also called the northern lights and southern lights — occur at the northern and southern poles.
