Abu Dhabi’s coastal area Al Dhabi has been renamed Al Nouf to strengthen and highlight local heritage of UAE.
Under the directives of Mohamed bin Zayed and the follow-up of Hamdan bin Zayed & Hazza bin Zayed, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City renames Al Dhabiya area Al Nouf, to ingrain local heritage in the names of regions & cities, and highlight the historical importance of the area.
In a statement the municipality said that signboards and maps in Abu Dhabi soon will be changed accordingly to Al Nouf.
The authorities renamed the coastal area in order to consolidate the heritage meanings in the names of regions and cities and to highlight the historical importance of the region.
Al Nouf is a traditional Arabic name which means elevation and height, reflecting the importance of the area as a heritage centre and as distinguished tourist destination for fishing, driving and sail racing.
