The Dubai Health Authority has further expanded its COVID-19 vaccination campaign by opening up booking slots for 12 to 15-year-olds for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Parents can now book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment for this age group by using the DHA app.
In line with the National COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) recently approved the emergency use of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for the 12-15 age group, following the completion of clinical trials and a strict assessment conducted to approve the local emergency use of the vaccine.
Dr Farida Al Khaja, CEO of DHA’s Clinical Support Services and Nursing Sector and Chairperson of the COVID-19 Vaccination Steering Committee, said that consistent with the high priority given to the health and safety of the community, this move will help extend the protection offered by the COVID-19 vaccine to this age group. She reiterated the need for parents to ensure that children of this age group continue to observe precautionary measures even after receiving both doses of the vaccine.
She added that those who have chronic conditions will have priority for receiving this vaccine. Stressing that vaccination is highly recommended to ensure a high level of protection, she said priority will also be given to those who live with elderly people or individuals whose health conditions prevent vaccination. This measure has been taken as part of helping protect vulnerable family members
Dr Al Khaja further said that 12 - 15-year-olds who have tested positive for COVID-19 with mild or no symptoms can take the vaccine after the completion of the isolation period (10 days).
For moderate or severe cases, including cases that required hospitalisation, parents must consult the doctor before booking an appointment.
