The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a ruling issued by the Court of First Instance sentencing a Gulf national to one year in jail after being convicted of driving a vehicle recklessly, causing damage to a police vehicle and wounding a policeman.
The case dated back to last May when a policeman in the Ras Al Khor area in Dubai spotted the defendant driving a vehicle without number plates in a reckless and aggressive manner.
The policeman stated in the investigations that while combing the Ras Al Khor area in a civilian vehicle belonging to the Dubai Police, he spotted the defendant driving a vehicle without a number plate in an aggressive manner.
He tried to stop the defendant but the latter rammed his vehicle several times and injured him before he fled the scene, the policeman said.
The defendant then came back and hit the same vehicle from behind several times after stopping on the shoulder of the road. Another policeman came in a civilian vehicle and stopped behind the convict’s vehicle to prevent him from moving.
The defendant, however, kept moving his vehicle until he hit the second policeman’s vehicle and showed resistance during his arrest. He was referred to the competent authorities and the Court of First Instance ruled that he be sentenced to one year in jail.
