A Tamil Nadu woman allegedly buried her so-called soothsayer husband alive after he wished to be buried while he was having a life so that he could attain immortality.
However, their daughter found out about the incident when she returned from work on Friday and notified police about the incident.
According to local media, Nagaraj, a resident of Kalaignar Karunanidhi Nagar in Perumbakkam, was a so-called mystic who was claiming that he had spoken to the gods and recently said that he attained divine blessing after visiting a few temples in the state.
He also built a temple in his yard and invited people to visit the temple to get their life predictions.
Against this background, on November 16, Nagaraj suffered from chest pain and told his wife that he might die soon, but he asked her to bury him alive with the "little" life left.
He repeatedly said the act would help him become immortal.
His wife, Lakshmi, accepted his request and the next day called two people to dig a pit.
They claimed that the pit was intended to build a water reservoir.
On November 17, Lakshmi buried Nagaraj in a sitting position while apparently unconscious, according to local media.
On Friday, the daughter of the couple Thamizharasi, a techie, returned from her trip and she was shocked to find that her father was missing while the mother was quiet about the incident.
She kept asking her mother about her father.
She eventually broke her silence and said that she completed her father’s request to bury him alive.
The daughter immediately registered a complaint to Perumbakkam police and exhumed the body for post-mortem.
The police said that only based on the post-mortem report it can be found if Nagaraj was alive or dead during the time of burial.
