It was the ultimate sacrifice a mother could make: laying down her life to save her daughter’s life.
This is what happened in England when a young mother was killed while saving the life of her young daughter.
National Health Service healthcare assistant Rebecca Ableman, 30, was walking to a local shop in their village of Willingham, Cambridgeshire, pushing a pram carrying her two-year-old daughter Autumn when she saw a lorry approaching.
Just before she was tragically hit by the lorry she pushed the pram to safety.
Passersby immediately tended to her while one quickly took Autumn away from the scene so that she would not see what happened to her.
She died three weeks later.
A 67-year-old man has been arrested over the incident.
Her partner, Tuczemskyi, was out of the country then.
The first time he heard of the incident was when he got a notification from his digital doorbell showing the police standing on his doorstep.
After he could not contact her, he asked her father to go and check on her.
The police finally got hold of her father and redirected him to the hospital where she had been taken via air ambulance, according to the Independent.
Her grief-stricken partner can only remember their fond moments together. The last exchange Tuczemskyi and Rebecca had together were texts about whether they should get fish and chips for dinner.
He has already collected nearly £4,000 over his £10,000 goal on the GoFundMe page in memory of his wife.
Of the fundraiser, Tuczemskyi wrote: “This will be for Autumn for when she’s 18.
“No amount of money could replace the hole Becky’s passing will leave in our beautiful daughter’s life, but I hope it can in some way help her feel closer to her mummy.”
Autumn still cries for her mother at night.
