The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian maid to six months in jail to be followed by deportation and fined her Dhs2.000 on theft charges. The maid stole valuables, electronic devices, clothes, and kitchen utensils from her employer’s house, put the stolen items in boxes inside her room and left the country for annual leave after asking her co-worker to have the boxes shipped to her home country.

The case dated back to last July when a Gulf citizen filed a complaint in which he stated that he had been robbed by and Asian maid, who had been working for him for six years. According to the complainant’s statement, his wife discovered that her computer, tablet and precious gold jewelry had disappeared.

The complainant added in the interrogations that he inquired from his employees about the items that had disappeared but they all denied seeing them. As the maid was on her annual leave, the employer asked her colleagues to search her room in the house annex, where they found three boxes ready for shipment.

The maid’s co-worker told him that the maid asked her to have the boxes shipped to her home country but the shipping charges were higher than the amount that the maid left for this purpose, he said, The co-worker told him that the maid communicated with her several times to inquire about why the shipment was delayed, he added.

According to the official documents, the maid was arrested as soon as she returned to the UAE. On interrogation, the maid denied that she had stolen the disappeared items and alleged that her employer’s wife and daughter gave her all the items as a gift.
