The Dubai Court of Misdemeanor fined an investor and his brother Dhs5,000 for beating up a female employee, Arab, because of allegedly smoking electronic cigarette at the workplace.
They reportedly assaulted her, causing injuries that hindered her from work for a period of less than twenty days.
The case goes back to last June, when an Arab woman reported that she had been assaulted and beaten up by her employer and his brother at the workplace.
The female worker explained that she had been surprised by the employer entering her office and asking her not to smoke e-cigarette inside the office. When she denied that, he slapped her on the face and assaulted her, before his brother came to the office and assaulted her as well.
She immediately left the office and headed to a hospital to receive the medical treatment and then she filed a report of the incident.
Accordingly, the employer and his brother were arrested and interrogated.
According to the report, the owner told the court that he had asked the female employee not to smoke electronic cigarette inside his company's premises, but she got angry and started assaulting and insulting him and his brother.
The employer’s brother also stated in the court that he had rushed to the office after hearing her screaming. He found her assaulting and insulting his brother, so he asked her to leave the office and resign.
Though she owed to the company Dhs16,000, which she borrowed to treat her daughter, but we did not ask her to pay it. The employer’s brother added that she refused to leave and started beating herself.
According to the forensic laboratory report, the woman was admitted to the hospital on the day of the incident, as she was suffering from pain in the left arm and the neck, along with redness in the neck and left arm, with no fractures or wounds.
The Court convicted the employer and his brother and passed the aforementioned judgment.
