Airports Council International (ACI) officially announced that Dubai International Airport came first in the world in terms of the number of international passengers, registering more than 66 million international passengers.
Dubai International Airport holds the title of the busiest international airport for the ninth year in a row.
The data indicated that Dubai Airport increased the difference by about 8 million passengers, between it and London Heathrow Airport, which came in second place with about 58.2 million passengers, with a growth of 230.5%, then Amsterdam Airport came in third place with about 52.5 million passengers, with a growth of 105.8%, then Airport Paris, with about 51.8 million passengers, a growth of 128.9%, then Istanbul Airport, with about 48.5 million passengers, a growth of 83.3%.
According to the Council's data, Dubai International Airport came in fifth place in terms of the total number of passengers for domestic and international travel.
The data indicated that the American Atlanta Airport came in first place in the world with about 93.7 million passengers, then Dallas-Fort Worth Airport in second place with about 73.36 million passengers, then Denver Airport in third place with about 69.2 million passengers, then Dubai International Airport in fifth place with about 66.06 million passengers.
Preliminary figures indicate that with the resumption of international travel, global passenger traffic for 2022 has reached nearly 7 billion, representing an increase of 53.5% over 2021, or a recovery of 73.8% over the results of 2019.
The top 10 airports in terms of total passenger traffic, which accounts for 10% of global traffic, experienced a growth of 51.7% from 2021 amounting to 85.9% compared to the results of 2019.
Of the 10 largest airports in the world, 5 are located in the United States. Supported by local commuters that make up (between 75% and 95% of domestic traffic).
