Fog covered some coastal and inland areas of the country on Friday and continued for eight hours between 1am and 9am.

The fog began forming over KEZAD, Al Ajban, Al Falah, Al Faya Road, Seeh Shuaib and Al Wathba in Abu Dhabi, over Sweihan in Al Ain and over Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road towards Al Rahba, Al Maktoum International Airport, Madinat Hind and Jebel Ali in Dubai, while intermittent fog formed over Dubai International Airport and other separate areas across the country.

The lowest temperature of 7.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Rakna in Al Ain City at 6am, while the second lowest temperature of 9.9 degrees Celsius was recorded in Damtha at 05:30am UAE local time.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) called on road users and motorists to take caution and follow traffic instructions during the fog and lower horizontal visibility in some inland and coastal areas.

Meanwhile, as a result of the fog, Abu Dhabi Police reduced speeds to 80 km/h on 8 main roads: Al Faya (Al Ghadeer complex – Copri bridge), Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road (Al Reef – Dubai), Abu Dhabi-Sweihan Road (Sweihan Roundabout – Tilal Sweihan), Sweihan Road (Sweihan – Al Ajban), Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road (Al Faya bridge – Al Khazna), Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road (Madinat Al Riyadh – KEZAD bridge), Abu Dhabi-Sweihan Road (Al Falah bridge – Zayed Military City roundabout) and Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road (Al Mafraq bridge – Al Wathba bridge).

They stressed the necessity for motorists to abide by the speed limit as shown on the traffic signs on the emirate’s roads during fog.

Saturday’s weather is expected to be clear in general and partly cloudy at times but humid at night and on Sunday morning in some coastal areas, especially the northern ones, with a chance of light fog. Light to moderate northwesterly winds will blow, turning to southeasterly at 10 to 20 and up to 30 km/h, while the sea will have regular waves in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
