The UAE confirmed, in a session before the UN Security Council on Tuesday, that the lies, misleading information and propaganda spread by some Sudanese representatives, targeting the UAE and other countries, aim to blind the international community to the heinous acts being committed on the ground by the warring parties.

Ambassador Mohammed AbuShehab, the permanent representative of the UAE to the United Nations, said in the special session on Sudan: The UAE will continue to work to find a political solution that preserves Sudan, and that “deceptive efforts to divert attention will not deter the UAE from continuing to work with international and regional partners to find an urgent political solution that preserves Sudan.”

Muhammad AbuShehab added, “The Sudanese people are facing the imminent danger of famine.”

He called on both sides of the conflict to protect civilians and infrastructure, stressing the need for a ceasefire and moving towards a transitional process to civilian rule.

AbuShehab added in his speech, “We express our deep concern about the tragic effects resulting from the conflict in Sudan.”

He pointed out that the UAE on Monday allocated 70% of its pledge that it announced last April during its participation in the meetings of the International Humanitarian Conference on Sudan, amounting to $100 million, to United Nations agencies and humanitarian and relief organizations, in support of humanitarian efforts in Sudan.

Welcoming this position, the Director-General of the World Health Organization praised the UAE support provided to Sudan, noting that “with the support of partners and donors, we will continue to support the urgent health needs of the Sudanese people and refugees in neighboring countries.”

WHO chief said, in a post on the “X” platform, on Tuesday: “With the support of partners and donors, we will continue to support the urgent health needs of the people of Sudan and refugees in neighboring countries. We thank the UAE for this generous pledge. We must work together to protect the lives of the most vulnerable groups.”

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on Tuesday, in a tweet on the “X” platform, praised the partnership and continued support from the United Arab Emirates for the organization’s humanitarian response plan in Sudan. The FAO confirmed that the UAE’s funding for humanitarian response efforts in Sudan will contribute to the efforts of all partners to prevent famine.
