His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved the implementation of a health insurance programme for Sharjah citizens aged 45 years and above, providing coverage for treatment at the University Hospital Sharjah.

This initiative is scheduled to commence on Monday (August 12, 2024) and is estimated to cost Dhs80 million for 8,000 people.

The announcement was made by Dr. Abdulaziz Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah Health Authority (SHA), in collaboration with Mohammed Al Raisi through the Direct Line programme via Sharjah Broadcast Authority (SBA).

Al Muhairi stated that an electronic link would be sent via SMS to those wishing to register in the health insurance system for treatment at the University Hospital. This link will enable individuals to submit their personal data and confirm that they do not have health insurance with any other entity in the emirate. Following this confirmation, the insurance will be activated.

He also explained that the Sharjah government insures 118,000 individuals, comprising employees and retirees, through Al Buhaira National Insurance. Additionally, 12,000 Sharjah citizens aged 50 years and above, including citizens, individuals with special needs, and those receiving social assistance, are treated at the University Hospital, he added.
