Divers from the Marine Rescue Division at Dubai Ports Police Station recovered a car that fell off the pier in the Jaddaf area of Bur Dubai. The car had crossed the pier and collided with a yacht parked there before it flipped over and settled in the seabed.

According to Colonel Ali Al Naqbi, Deputy Director of Ports Police Station, two young men were in the car and were able to escape and get out of it after it settled on the seabed, as the windshield of the car was broken following its direct collision with the yacht.

He explained that the Command and Control Centre in the General Department of Operations received a report at 2:20pm on Sunday, stating that a car had collided with a yacht and fallen into the sea with two people inside.

Marine rescue patrols, supported by the marine security patrols rushed to the site but found the two young men already out of the car, he said, adding that the patrols checked if the two young men were safe and were assured that there were no other people inside the car.

Captain Abdul Rahman Bourguiba, Head of Marine Rescue Division, confirmed that after checking the safety of the two young men, the division’s divers dived directly to the bottom of the sea to check the condition of the car. They then lifted the car to the pier using ropes of a crane belonging to the General Department of Transport and Rescue, he added.

He called on motorists to always check the mechanical condition of their cars regularly, take caution while driving, follow all preventive measures, fully abide by traffic laws and regulations and reduce speeds.

He also called on the public to contact the Command and Control Centre of the General Department of Operations on 999 in the event of emergencies and the call centre on 901 in non-emergency cases.
