Dubai Police have arrested a motorist for driving his vehicle at 220 km/h on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed road at night.

The police said on X, “The General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police has apprehended a driver for speeding at 220 km/h on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed road, endangering both his safety and other road users. The motorist has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal proceedings.”

The police also shared a video of the motorist driving at high speed. The video was obtained from the motorist who while driving made the clip showing the speedometer at 220 km/h.

Dubai Police are calling upon parents to take a proactive role in addressing irresponsible traffic behaviour exhibited by some young individuals by being more vigilant and actively engaging in preventing irresponsible actions that could lead to severe consequences and harm lives and property.

The Dubai Police emphasised zero-tolerance policy towards reckless driving and irresponsible drivers.

The police highlighted that the aggressive behaviour of these motorists called for the enforcement of Decree No. 30 of 2023 concerning traffic violations and the impoundment of vehicles, which aims to safeguard lives and properties and effectively confront reckless drivers who endanger their own lives and the lives of others. The authorities also indicated that the fine for releasing impounded vehicles is Dhs50,000.
