Germany, France and Switzerland urged their citizens on Wednesday to leave Iran after Tehran's missile attack on Israel and the latter's threats of revenge.

The German Foreign Ministry said in an update of its recommendations: "German citizens are asked to leave Iran" and not to travel there.

The French Foreign Ministry, for its part, said on the website of its embassy in Tehran: "It is advisable for French residents in Iran, who have the possibility, to temporarily leave the country as soon as international air traffic resumes."

It added: "It is still advisable for non-resident French citizens to completely refrain from coming to Iran. As for those who are there despite everything, it is advisable to limit their movements, avoid any gatherings and leave Iranian territory as soon as possible once airspace is opened."

Switzerland issued a similar recommendation, calling on "Swiss to leave the country by their own means, if it seems possible and safe." The Swiss Foreign Ministry added: "Travel to Iran is not recommended."
