The Emirates Society for Consumer Protection has unveiled a substantial awareness billboard situated on Etihad Road, in proximity to Dubai and Sharjah.
This initiative forms part of the Soceity's broader awareness campaign aimed at safeguarding rights of consumers. It further seeks to reach the largest possible segment of the local community, with the aim of educating them on consumer rights in the UAE, regulating their relationship with traders, and combating commercial fraud of all kinds.
The launch was attended by Mohammed Khalifa Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, members of the Society's Board of Directors and a number of distinguished personalities and representatives of companies participating in the mural, which is 85 metres long and 140 metres high, on Etihad Road. It represents a collaboration between over 80 prominent brands, both local and international.
In recent years, the UAE has been able to achieve qualitative leaps, thereby becoming a preferred destination for investors, entrepreneurs, innovators and various international brands. Keeping abreast with this, the UAE has demonstrated a considerable commitment to the protection of consumer rights through the enactment of pertinent legislation, Al Muhairi added.
Furthermore, he posited that consumer protection is not solely contingent upon legislative measures, it also necessitates the dissemination of information regarding consumer rights and the means of responding to potential issues.
In accordance with its pledge to disseminate knowledge and educate consumers, the society launched this mural with the objective of raising consumers awareness of their rights.
These include the right to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed choices between goods and services, to be aware of their basic rights and responsibilities and how to use them, to protect them from fraudulent practices in all their forms, and to enhance their ability to make informed purchasing decisions, including awareness of how to handle complaints and refer to the law.
