UAE says overstayers will be penalised after amnesty ends on Thursday

The deadline for rectifying the status of overstayers in the UAE and exempting them from financial penalties and administrative constraints expires on Thursday (Oct.31).

This initiative was launched by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) on Sept.1 and continued for two months.

The ICP has recently confirmed that the deadline will not be extended. Consequently, the legislation will be enacted and penalties including fines and fees will be imposed on those who have not rectified their status.

Moreover, joint inspection campaigns with the relevant authorities will commence on Nov.1, targeting individuals who have overstayed their visas.

These campaigns will focus on residential areas, companies, and industrial zones. It is important to note that all previously recorded fines will be reinstated.

The initiative, which spanned a period of two months, showcased the humanitarian aspect of the UAE and its commitment to upholding the principles of respect, the rule of law, and the values of tolerance and compassion within society.

The grace period for rectifying the status of overstayers constituted an exceptional opportunity that contributed to the achievement of a set of strategic goals for the state and for violators alike.

The primary objective was to provide a flexible legal environment that would enhance the security and social and economic stability of the country.

The initiative to rectify the status of violators contributed to the promotion of values such as tolerance, compassion and social cohesion. Furthermore, it provided exceptional support to violators, enabling them to take the necessary steps to correct their status during the designated grace period through flexible and facilitated procedures.

Additionally, overstayers were exempt from financial fines related to visas, residency, identity cards and establishment cards. Furthermore, the grace period provided residency offenders with the chance to gain full access to their rights and benefit from the opportunities for residence and work in the UAE.

This resulted in enhanced satisfaction among the overstayers and their families, while also facilitating a more positive experience within the country, in alignment with the principles of legal compliance.
