His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Supreme President of the Arabic Language Academy, chaired the Academy’s Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting at its headquarters in University City.
The Sharjah Ruler commended the Academy’s significant achievements in promoting the Arabic language, expanding its reach, and preserving its rich heritage. He also praised the scholars, researchers, administrators, and coordinators whose efforts are vital in implementing the Academy’s various programmes and initiatives.
The meeting reviewed the Academy’s activities and accomplishments over the past year, focusing on achievements that align with the Academy’s key role in promoting the Arabic language, in line with the policies and objectives set by the board of trustees in prior meetings.
The meeting also reviewed recent achievements, highlighting the completion of the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, a monumental work spanning 127 volumes. This project involved 13 academies and more than 700 experts, researchers, editors, proofreaders, printers, administrators, and technicians.
The achievements of the academy included participation in many external projects and events, including the inauguration of the headquarters of the BoT of the Arabic Language in Mauritania, the Hall of Arabic Studies at Al-Farabi University, and the Arabic Language Festival at the University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, in addition to participating in book fairs.
The Academy organised several linguistic councils, featuring poets, experts, and specialists. It also hosted training courses, seminars, and forums focused on various fields related to the Arabic language.
The meeting highlighted the Academy’s key publications, including the release of six issues of its magazine and the publication of the third edition of “Al-Amali Al-Kubra,” a corrected version based on three handwritten manuscripts.
The meeting also highlighted key events and conferences organised by the Academy, including the Second Sharjah International Conference on Arabic Language Studies in Europe (SICALE), which saw the participation of 24 orientalists and Arabists.
The meeting was also updated on the latest progress of the Sharjah Award for Linguistic and Lexical Studies. The arbitration committees have completed their evaluation of the entries and selected the winners, who will be honoured on December 18, in conjunction with World Arabic Language Day.
The meeting also covered the preparation and development of the “Comprehensive Arabic Encyclopedia for Sciences, Arts, and Literature.” The project aims to create a unique and precise resource that chronicles notable figures, terminology, and the history of Arabs and Muslims in a distinguished manner.
Recently, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, directed to establish a pedestrian bridge to connect Al Bardi 6 and Al Batha’ areas in Khorfakkan. The objective of this initiative is to facilitate the movement of people.
Additionally, Sheikh Sultan directed the establishment of a 500-metre-long beach for women in Al Lu’lu’iya area in Khorfakkan.
This was announced by Engineer Yousef Al Othmni, Chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), during a phone call with Mohammed Al Raisi on the ‘Direct Line’ programme, broadcast on Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA).
He stated that work is underway to construct a pedestrian bridge linking Al Bardi 6 and Al Batha’ areas in Khorfakkan. The bridge will facilitate access to Khorfakkan Hospital and movement of people of the two areas.
Furthermore, he stated that a multitude of improvements have been implemented in the Hayawah area, encompassing the installation of sewage lines, rainwater drainage systems, and asphalt roads. It is anticipated that the contractor will commence operations at the site within approximately a month, he added.
A BEACH FOR WOMEN: At the same time, Eng. Ali Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Public Works in Sharjah, said that Sheikh Sultan had chosen the location of the 500-metre-long beach in Al Lu’lu’iya area for its distinguished location that is away from the public road.
It will include all necessary facilities and services for women and children, including bathing and exercise areas, a cafeteria, a prayer room, a clinic, umbrellas, and a rest area.
