Six UAE nationals sustained medium to serious injuries in a traffic accident that occurred on Friday afternoon on the Emirates Road.
The incident, which involved four vehicles, was caused by a succession of collisions resulting from reckless driving, excessive speed and driver distraction.
On Friday afternoon, the Sharjah Police Operations Room received a report of a collision between four vehicles on Emirates Road, specifically from Al Badie Bridge towards Bridge No. 7.
The incident resulted in injuries among drivers and passengers.
Immediately, the specialised police teams and the National Ambulance teams proceeded to the accident site, where it was determined that the injuries ranged from moderate to severe.
This necessitated the intervention of the Air Wing of the General Directorate of Security Support at the Ministry of Interior, which facilitated the transfer of a number of the injured to the hospital for the requisite medical care.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Mandhari, the Head of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Sharjah Police, expalined that the accident was caused by three factors: excessive speed, inattention, and distraction from the road. He added that the incident transpired as a consequence of a speeding vehicle colliding with a congested lane where vehicles were moving at a reduced speed due to heavy traffic, which led to the accident. This resulted in the collision of other vehicles that were moving behind it, which in turn caused a succession of collisions and injuries.
Major Al Mandhari highlighted that excessive speed, inattention and distraction from the road are among the primary causes of most traffic accidents.
He emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic laws and maintaining focus while driving.
He highlighted that adherence to traffic regulations plays a pivotal role in preventing accidents that could result in significant loss of life and property.
Furthermore, he emphasised that fostering a culture of safe driving is a fundamental aspect of enhancing road safety and ensuring the safety of society.
