Sultan Al Qasimi Centre highlights Sharjah Ruler’s academic laurels

Sheikh Sultan received a PhD in history with distinction in 1985.
It was in 1985 that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi received a PhD in history with distinction from the University of Exeter, UK, for his thesis entitled “The Myth of Arab Piracy in the Arabian Gulf between 1797 and 1820 AD”.

Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre in Sharjah has announced the launch of the ‘Scientific Degree’ project, to commemorate the academic degrees received by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, by prestigious educational institutions around the world.
Inaugurated in November 2024, the project will continue for a full year, during which a host of top academic degrees obtained by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah will be selected.
It was in 1985 that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi received a PhD in history with distinction from the University of Exeter, UK, for his thesis entitled “The Myth of Arab Piracy in the Arabian Gulf between 1797 and 1820 AD”.
On May 15, 2007, commemorating his special relationship with the university, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah received members of the University of Exeter Alumni Association.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Steve Smith, Vice Chancellor of the University of Exeter, lauded the scientific and research initiatives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah, in the history of the Gulf region, correcting many historical fallacies and opening doors to true knowledge and expertise in this field.
The then Vice Chancellor of the University of Exeter also hailed the invaluable support and patronage of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah offered to students of science and academic and research institutions everywhere.
This came during the celebrations held by the University of Exeter under the patronage of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and its alumni working in the Arabian Gulf region and at Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre. On this occasion, the Ruler of Sharjah was chosen as a founding member of the Exeter University Supporters Council.
In 2012, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah visited the University of Exeter in the UK and met the late Queen Elizabeth during the inauguration of the new main building for the Students Forum.
The ‘Scientific Degree’ project is part of the initiatives by Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre to shed light on the scientific, cognitive and intellectual contributions of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre also launched the “Story of an Award” initiative to highlight and celebrate the numerous distinguished awards and honours received by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah throughout the year.
