Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African national to three months in jail to be followed by deportation from the country after serving his sentence for his conviction of attempting to connive, in April 2023, with a fugitive to steal an electric scooter, but its owner discovered them, so one of them fled into the building, where the residents caught him and handed him over to the police, while the other fled to an unknown place.
The details date back to an earlier time when a report was received by Dubai Police stating that an African and a compatriot were attempting to steal an electric scooter in Al Satwa area.
The reporter stated that he heard noise outside his home, so he went out to check, and he saw the suspect and another person of the same nationality trying to cut the lock of a scooter he owned.
The reporter added continued in the interrogations that the suspect left the iron scissors and fled into the building where he lived, so he called for help from one of the residents, who caught the suspect and handed him over to the police, while the other fled.
A police man stated in the interrogations that the suspect denied attempting to steal the scooter and claimed that his fugitive partner asked him to help him steal bicycles and electric scooters lined up in front of homes, including the scooter of the victim. However, he added, he refused to participate in the crime, claiming that his attempt to flee the place was due to fear of being charged with theft.
