Sultan Bin Ahmed reviews scientific projects at University of Sharjah

Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), reviewed several of the university's notable scientific projects during a meeting with Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, along with his deputies and several officials.
During the meeting, which took place in Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed’s office at the university, he reviewed a report on the "Sharjah Smart Center for Weather Risk Management and Climate Change" at the university.
The centre aims to enhance the research and knowledge capabilities of individuals and institutions in this field, and to support decision-making by providing specialised studies and research to address disasters and climate crises.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed learned about several significant research projects being undertaken by the centre through researchers at the university's research institutes. These include: a project to prepare hydrological maps to assess the risks of flood runoff in the emirate of Sharjah, which aims to develop these maps using hydrological models and artificial intelligence to identify and evaluate areas prone to flood risks and enhance preparedness and preventive measures.
Additionally, there is a project to develop a prototype for a smart sensing and early warning system for flood monitoring, as well as a project focused on health risk management based on artificial intelligence, utilising Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models and deep learning to predict disease outbreaks following floods and improve the allocation of medical supplies.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed also listened to several community service initiatives presented by the Sharjah Smart Center for Weather Risk Management and Climate Change, including support for the elderly during periods of heavy rainfall through the participation of the Mobile Healthcare Support Unit.
Additionally, the center is developing programs to train volunteers and response plans for disasters, as well as conducting workshops with various government entities to improve preparedness for flood runoff.
The President of the University of Sharjah, also reviewed a project to build a smart and integrated university campus utilising artificial intelligence. This project aims to support the achievement of the four priorities of the university's strategic plan for 2024/2030, known as "EDGE." The University of Sharjah aims to excel in four main areas: Emiratisation, digitisation, global engagement, and entrepreneurship.
The project aims to enhance digital transformation at the university by integrating artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, creating a smart educational environment that responds to the needs of the university community. Additionally, it seeks to develop innovative health solutions using digital twins to improve the health and well-being of faculty members, staff, and students.
The project aims to transform buildings into smart, energy-efficient structures using digital twins, contributing to an enhanced work and learning environment while reducing operational costs. Additionally, it focuses on improving transportation systems by utilising smart robotics technologies to facilitate the delivery of orders within the campus, ensuring comfort and safety for all members of the community.
The project supports the Emiratisation initiative by offering advanced training and research opportunities for Emirati students and faculty members, thereby enhancing national skills in the fields of artificial intelligence and smart technologies. The smart projects included in the smart campus serve as experimental prototypes developed at the University of Sharjah, covering areas such as digital twin parking systems, smart transportation, smart security and privacy, and interpretive artificial intelligence.
