Gang assaults man, snatches Dhs20,000 from him in Dubai

A four-member Asian gang snatched Dhs20,000 from a compatriot, using physical force and threats of further violence to gain access to the victim's vehicle.

The Criminal Court in Dubai found the defendants guilty and imposed a one-year prison sentence, a fine equal to the amount stolen, and deportation from the country after serving the sentences.

In March last year, the victim lodged a complaint with the police in the Dubai Investment Park.

In his statement, he said that he had been the victim of an assault and robbery, during which he sustained a loss of Dhs20,000.

The victim was taken by force by four individuals who had concealed their identities by wearing face masks.

These individuals approached the victim while he was driving his vehicle after leaving a massage centre after mid-night, he added, noting that the four suspects physically assaulted him and attempted to forcibly remove him from the vehicle.

However, they were unsuccessful in doing so. Consequently, one of the suspects restrained him while another individual stole Dhs20,000 from his pocket.

Thereafter, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that was parked in the same location. The victim attempted to pursue the suspects, but failed.

Additionally, he indicated that he was unable to notify the authorities of the incident at the time due to his limited proficiency in English.

Consequently, he sought the assistance of a friend to accompany him to the police station the following morning to file a report.

As reported by a police officer, the investigative team gathered evidence from the crime scene, which revealed that the vehicle in question had been rented under the name of an individual who had subsequently departed from the country.

Based on the information obtained, the suspects were identified and apprehended at a residence rented by one of them in the Rashidiya area.

During the arrest, law enforcement officials discovered weapons and tools used in the attack.

In the course of the investigation, the defendants admitted that they had perpetrated the crime at the instigation of one of them, who alleged that the victim had caused a significant financial loss to one of his relatives.

In return for a sum of money, the latter persuaded thhem to commit the crime. They conceded that they had stolen Dhs20,000 from the victim and subsequently fled the scene.
