The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a gang of five from a Central Asian country to three years in jail and ordered their deportation, after serving their sentence, on the charge of stealing a safe containing money, jewellery, and valuable watches from a villa in the Jebel Ali area in Dubai. The case details date back to March 2024 when a European woman filed a report complaining that her safe in her villa in the Jebel Ali area was robbed.
She added that she discovered upon her return from abroad with her family that the outer door of the villa was not closed, and her belongings were scattered around the place.
The complainant added in the interrogations that she went up to one of the rooms and did not find the iron safe which contained valuable watches, money in different foreign currencies, gold jewellery, cheques, documents, and 10 old phones which belonged to her husband.
A policeman stated that a team from the Criminal Investigation Department collected evidence from the crime scene and examined the surveillance cameras inside the villa and around the place.
The police then identified the suspects and the vehicle they used to commit the crime, which was rented.
The investigations also revealed that they entered the country on a visit visa and settled in an apartment in another emirate, where they were arrested, and the stolen items were found in their possession.
Recently, the Dubai Appellate Court upheld the Court of First Instance’s verdict to jail a gang of four Asians for six months on charges of setting fire to two vehicles owned by other Africans following a dispute over the illegal trade of alcoholic beverages.
All four will also be deported after serving their sentence, the Court of First Instance had ruled.
The case dates back to March 2023 when an African filed a report complaining that a fire was set to his vehicle and another bus in a sandy area in Jebel Ali Industrial Area in Dubai.
